Conference programme

The Interlakokraska 2023 conference programme featured 15 events to discuss current trends in the Russian coatings market, the specifics of export and import of coatings materials, components, technologies and their production facilities in the current environment, and the problems of technological sovereignty in the coatings industry.

Traditionally, the programme was opened by the International Coatings Forum 2023, organised by EXPOCENTRE and the Russian Coatings Journal. Industry experts shared their knowledge and summed up the year's results.

According to Olga Andrutskaya, Editor-in-chief of the Russian Coatings Journal, many Russian production facilities in the paint and coating industry suffered last year. Despite the difficult situation, Russian companies are not standing still. According to the industry’s experts, the sanctions have even spurred them to innovate, and Russian manufacturers are now striving to occupy new niches.

Valery Rammo, Deputy General Director for Technical Affairs at ATTIKA, Alexander Kosov, Business Development Manager at Allnex Belgorod, and other experts spoke about how companies should work under sanctions and which products to use.

The forum participants discussed the industry's prospects, non-standard solutions for the raw materials market, Russia's import substitution programme, new logistics in 2023, and other important issues.

EXPOCENTRE AO organised the Panel Discussion on Staffing and Qualifications in the Paint and Coatings Industry. Problem Areas in partnership with the Russian Chemists Union, the Centrlack Association, and Mendeleev University of Chemical Technology of Russia. The event was moderated by Gennady Averyanov, Director at the Centrlack Association and Vice President at the Russian Chemists Union.

The discussion focused on new developments in the regulatory framework of competence requirements, the impact of professional standards and qualification criteria on the training programmes of higher education institutions, the problems of training highly qualified professionals in coatings and coating technology, and the organizational capabilities of research at universities in the development of paints and coatings.

One more important event was the Panel on the New Realities of the Coatings Market. It was organised by EXPOCENTRE AO in partnership with the Centrlack Association, the Quality Paint Association and Russian Hydrogen AO, and with support of the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade.

The panel participants included Mikhail Yurin, Director at the Department of Chemical Industry and Bioengineering Technology of the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade, representatives of the industry’s major companies, and heads of leading associations. The event was moderated by Gennady Averyanov, Director at the Centrlack Association and Vice President at the Russian Chemists Union.

Mikhail Yurin focused on the issue of import substitution of raw materials. He believes, the government and the industry community should now focus on the development of a domestic raw material base for paints and coatings.

Diana Kudryashova, Research Director at NIITEKHIM OAO, presented a brief overview of the year 2022 and new realities of the coatings market in Russia and the EEU. Gennady Averyanov, Director at the Centrlack Association, Sergey Fedotov, Director at the Quality Paint Association, as well as heads of leading Russian companies producing coatings and raw materials for their production (Russian Coatings, VMP Research and Production Holding, Kraski KVIL, Talatu, Pigment, Attika,  Russian Hydrogen, UTS Group, etc.) also made presentations.

At the end of the panel, a resolution was adopted containing specific proposals to the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade to support the paint and coating industry in creating favourable conditions for its steady operation and further development of the production of paints and coatings in Russia.

The panel concluded with the signing of an agreement to unite the major industry associations – the Centrlack Association and the Paint Quality Association. There is no doubt that this consolidation will have the most positive effect on the coordination of activities of all players on the Russian paint and coatings market to protect their interests and the interests of the state in the sphere of ensuring the technological independence of this country.

Salavat Petrochemical Complex OOO organised the Panel on the Markets for Paints and Coatings and Raw Materials for Paints and Coatings.
